Barry Hadlee - New Zealand - Batsman

Barry Hadlee

Barry Hadlee

New Zealand

Profile

The eldest son of Walter Hadlee, who had two more, Dayle and Richard. Unlike his brothers, Barry was an opening batsman for Canterbury. He played over two decades for them and only found consistency in the latter part of his career. His New Zealand journey lasted only for two ODIs, coming as a surprise to most.

Barry was 33 when he was called up for the ODI squad. It was an unusual selection as he had played just one List A game in the previous three years and in that game was run-out for nought. Out of his two ODIs, one was in the inaugural 1975 World Cup. Barry never played for the Black Caps, but hit peak towards the fag end of his career. He averaged over 40 in four of his last six first class seasons for Canterbury. His highest first class score of 163 came in his final season in 1980-81.
