Eric Szwarczynski began his career as an opening batsman before switching to the number 3 position for his club. Born in South Africa, Szwarczynski moved to Netherlands at a young age and represented the Netherlands A side as well their Under-23 team.

Szwarczynski made his ODI debut in 2006 against Sri Lanka. Although, he did not perform well in his first game, he gave several consistent performances up the order essentially helping Netherlands to good starts in the ODIs. Szwarczynski in the World Cup qualifiers in 2014. In the two matches he played, he scored back-to-back fifties. In the 7th place play-off against Canada, Szwarczynski was the highest scorer with a patient 75, that helped Netherlands clinch the game by 8 wickets.

Szwarczynski made his T20I debut in 2008 against Kenya and scored a decent 28. Although, he has not represented Netherlands frequently in this format, he has been an useful alternative for them, scoring when required.
