Profile

Nicknamed sometimes as 'Dino' as well as 'Italian Stallion', Tony Palladino's finest hour perhaps came outside the cricket ground. Strong suspicions on the actions of the Essex pair of Mervyn Westfield and Danish Kaneria, led him to report to the ECB, which in turn led to investigations which finally ended with bans for both disgraced cricketers.

In a career that has seen plenty of ups and downs, Palladino has emerged as the strike-force of Derbyshire's bowling attack, with his ability to secure movement off the surface. Palladino began his career in 2003, playing for the Cambridge UCCE and made his debut against Essex. A dislocated shoulder stalled his career for a while, but Pallladino performed admirably for the second eleven of Essex, before making his full debut. He also spent the off-season playing for Namibia in South Africa's domestic circle as well as in Zimbabwe.

However, his performance levels went down and was finally released from the squad in 2010. It was followed by a two-year contract with Derbyshire - a county where he would go on and excel in all the three formats of the game. 2012 was the season when Palladino made England sit up and take notice. With 56 wickets, he helped Derbyshire secure promotion to the first division.

A no mean batsman, Palladino also chipped in usefully with the bat and completed his maiden first-class hundred against the visiting Australian 'A' team in 2012. He was also mostly used in the role of a night-watchman, a task which he did with aplomb. In 2016, he was offered the role of player-cum-bowling coach, after the arrival of Kim Barnett as Derbyshire's director of cricket.
