That brings an end to our coverage of the first T20I of this five-match series. Not the ideal start to the series, but the remaining four games promise plenty of excitement for fans of both sides. For now, it’s goodbye from all of us. You can switch tabs and catch the live coverage of other ongoing matches..
21:57 Local Time, 16:27 IST: Rain has had the final say here in the capital city of Canberra. India’s innings promised plenty before the weather took control. The visitors got off to a flying start, with Abhishek Sharma dismissed early but not before setting the tone. After a brief rain interruption, play resumed, and Shubman Gill along with Suryakumar Yadav put on a dazzling partnership of 62 runs off just 35 deliveries. However, the rain wasn’t done yet. With India cruising at 97 for 1 after 9.4 overs, the heavens opened up once again - this time for good. Despite multiple inspections, the umpires eventually decided there was no chance of a restart. So, it’s a frustrating end to what was shaping up to be an entertaining contest in Canberra. The 1st T20I is called off.
If India don't bat again, which is mostly likely to happen, and this is a five-over contest, Australia's DLS target will be 71.
21:40 Local Time, 16:10 IST: Still raining and not looking good. We will have some left for a 5-over game though. Given the amount of rain that has come down the groundsmen may need at least 30 minutes to get conditions game-ready from the moment it stops. At the moment there is no activity and the situation remains the same for the next half an hour or so we might not have a game.
21:17 Local Time, 15:47 IST: The intensity of the rain has reduced, but it's still drizzling. The square is under covers as we continue to lose overs. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope we have some cricket action soon. Scratch that. it's picking up again!
Still coming down quite heavily. SKY gets a pat on the back from batting coach Sitanshu Kotak because he knows the importance of this assault on Ellis. Meanwhile, buddies Gill and Abhishek are chatting and chilling on the sidelines
20:53 Local Time, 15:23 IST: Rain picking up and the players are going off. SKY hides his bat inside the sweater. Fair bit of rain now. The Indian dugout gives a warm reception to both the batters as they have stolen 54 runs in just 4.4 overs since the resumption.
-- Only Muhammad Waseem has got to the 150th six milestone quicker than Surya (86 innings, 1649 balls) – 66 innings & 1543 balls.

150 Suryakumar Yadav *
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, no run, short of length delivery wide of off stump, SKY tries to reach out and cut but misses
Looks like it is drizzling. Meanwhile, Ellis wipes the ball with a towel
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, SIX, it's another slower ball that is belted by SKY. He picked it, he know it was back of the hand so spotted that and delayed the shot. Muscled hard over mid-wicket
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, wide, way outside off stump now
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, again setting a solid base to access the off-side as he knows it's only going to be into the wicket. SKY frees the arms and belts it down the ground with mid-off up
Nathan Ellis to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, lovely shot! Australia are bowling into the wicket with pace off, so SKY stood tall, waited before playing the cut, jumped to hit it over backward point and the man sweeping the off-side fence couldn't reach there in time
Nathan Ellis [1.0-0-10-1] is back into the attack

Matthew Kuhnemann
2-0-22-0
Kuhnemann to Gill, SIX, backs away and plays a brilliant slog-sweep over mid-wicket. They have taken 22 off Kuhnemann's 2 overs. Gill moved to unsettle the line and Kuhnemann offered a length ball, only to get smacked over the fence
Kuhnemann to Suryakumar Yadav, 1 run, uppish but safe! Kuhnemann almost surprised SKY with this full toss. SKY wanted to sweep but Kuhnemann pushed it quicker and forced a mishit as SKY wasn't full on the floor for full power and placement. Deep mid-wicket collects on the bounce to the right
Kuhnemann to Gill, 1 run, short, turning and interestingly keeping low as well. Gill waits and flat-bats the pull over mid-on
Kuhnemann to Suryakumar Yadav, 1 run, wants to tee off inside out but Kuhnemann bowls a clever slowish ball that made SKY check the drive along the ground
