India tour of England, 2026

Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi added to India's squads for the England ODIs and Zimbabwe T20Is

India have been forced into fresh changes after hamstring injuries to Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy. The BCCI has named Prince Yadav in the ODI squad for England and handed Ravi Bishnoi a recall for the Zimbabwe T20Is. Rana suffered a Grade 1 tear and Varun a more serious Grade 2 injury at Trent Bridge, with both now reporting to the Centre of Excellence for rehabilitation.

India have been dealt further injury blows on a testing tour of the UK, with the BCCI confirming late changes to their squads for the upcoming ODI series against England and the T20I tour of Zimbabwe. Fast bowler Prince Yadav has been named in the ODI group, while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi earns a recall for the Zimbabwe assignment.

The reshuffle follows hamstring injuries sustained by pacer Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy during the recently concluded T20I series, compounding what has already been a difficult trip for the reigning world champions.

The injuries explained

Both players picked up their problems during the third T20I at Trent Bridge. According to the BCCI, Rana reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his right hamstring, with subsequent scans revealing a Grade 1 injury. He has been ruled out of the ODI series against England.

Chakaravarthy's setback proved more serious. He too reported sudden discomfort, in his left hamstring, during the same match, with an MRI scan revealing a Grade 2 hamstring injury. On specialist medical advice, he has been ruled out of the T20I series in Zimbabwe. Both bowlers will report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence for further assessment and management.

Prince Yadav stays back for the ODIs

Prince Yadav, who had originally only been part of the T20I squad in England, will now remain in the country to link up with the ODI group as Rana's replacement. The young pacer had impressed on his limited outings, catching the eye with his pace and hard lengths.

Interestingly, Prince has also retained his place in the Zimbabwe T20I squad, meaning a busy period lies ahead for the emerging quick as he looks to seize his opportunity across both assignments.

A lifeline for Bishnoi

For Ravi Bishnoi, the call-up represents a welcome second chance. The leg-spinner was not part of the original Zimbabwe squad, and had endured a chastening time in England, where an expensive 17th over that leaked 29 runs at Old Trafford was widely cited as a decisive moment in India's defeat in the second T20I.

He now returns as Chakaravarthy's replacement, with an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and stake a fresh claim in India's white-ball plans.

A blow for Varun

The hamstring problem is another setback for Chakaravarthy, who has struggled for both form and fitness of late. He managed just one wicket in the two T20Is he played in England while conceding runs at over ten an over.

The mystery spinner had also fractured his left toe towards the back end of IPL 2026, playing through pain before missing the T20Is against Afghanistan and Ireland while in rehabilitation. His absence leaves a notable gap in India's spin options.

Bumrah's return a boost

There is better news elsewhere in the pace department, with Jasprit Bumrah set to return for the ODI series. The selectors are keen for the spearhead to feature regularly in the 50-over format, with the ODI World Cup a little over a year away.

His presence, alongside Virat Kohli's return from injury, offers a significant boost to a side badly in need of a lift following a chastening 4-0 T20I series defeat.

A new-look support staff for Zimbabwe

India's squad for the Zimbabwe T20Is is expected to arrive in Harare on July 20. Notably, VVS Laxman, the head of the Centre of Excellence, will take charge as head coach for that leg, assisted by Sunil Joshi and Hrishikesh Kanitkar.

The arrangement is designed to give regular head coach Gautam Gambhir and his staff a breather following a long and demanding stretch of white-ball cricket.

The updated squads

India's squad for the England ODIs: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav.

India's squad for the Zimbabwe T20Is: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Ravi Bishnoi.

The final word

The enforced changes cap a bruising few weeks for India, with injuries adding to the disappointment of a winless T20I tour. For Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, however, adversity has opened a door. Strong showings in the England ODIs, beginning on July 14, and the subsequent Zimbabwe T20Is could see both cement themselves in India's white-ball plans as the team looks to rebuild.
