India Bring Back Key Stars for Afghanistan T20I Series, Bumrah Included Subject to Fitness

India have opted for a near full-strength squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, bringing several prominent names back into the national setup. Shreyas Iyer will continue as captain, while Jasprit Bumrah's inclusion provides a major boost to the bowling attack, subject to his fitness clearance.

Bumrah Returns to the T20I Squad

The biggest headline from the selection is the return of Jasprit Bumrah. The premier fast bowler has been included after missing India's recent assignments in the format. His most recent T20I appearance came in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand in March.

Bumrah's participation, however, has not yet been confirmed. His availability will depend on receiving the required fitness clearance before the series.

Sanju Samson Back in the Team

Sanju Samson has also returned to India's T20I squad after being left out of the recent Zimbabwe series. He has been selected as one of two wicketkeeping options, with Ishan Kishan also included in the 15-member group.

The return of Samson is part of a significant reshuffle from the squad that travelled to Zimbabwe, giving India more experienced options ahead of the Afghanistan series.

Eight Changes From the Zimbabwe Tour

India have made eight changes to the squad used for the Zimbabwe T20Is. Rinku Singh, Suryansh Shedge, Harsh Dubey, Prabhsimran Singh, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma are the players who have not been retained this time.

The changes indicate a clear move towards restoring several first-choice players as India prepare for another international assignment at home.

The bowling department has received a major boost with Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy all included. Harshit Rana has also been selected, although his availability is subject to fitness clearance.

Three Matches in Delhi

The entire Afghanistan series will be played in New Delhi. The first T20I is scheduled for September 13, followed by the second match on September 15 and the final game on September 17.

All three matches will give India an opportunity to assess their strongest combinations in familiar home conditions.

The series comes after a difficult period for India's T20I side. The team suffered a 2-0 series defeat against Ireland and then endured a 4-0 loss in England before finding some success against Zimbabwe.

The Afghanistan assignment provides the defending T20 World Cup champions with a chance to regain momentum and establish a settled combination.
