Muneeba’s Fifty and Sadia’s Three-Wicket Burst Give Pakistan Winning Asia Cup Start

Pakistan Women began their Women's Asia Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing 35-run victory over Thailand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After being put under pressure early with the bat, Pakistan recovered to post 119/9 before their spinners controlled Thailand's chase and restricted them to 84/8.

Muneeba Provides the Foundation

Muneeba Ali played the central role in Pakistan's innings, producing a patient half-century when her team needed stability. The left-hander scored 54 from 52 deliveries and struck four boundaries during an innings built around managing a difficult batting surface.

Laomi finished with excellent figures of 3/14, while Thipatcha Putthawong also impressed with 3/18. Their spells prevented Pakistan from turning the strong partnership into a much bigger total.

Muneeba Reaches Fifty

Despite the wickets around her, Muneeba remained focused and completed her fourth T20I half-century. She reached the milestone from 45 deliveries before Laomi eventually ended her innings in the 17th over.

Late contributions from Umm-e-Hani and Tuba Hassan helped Pakistan move closer to the 120-run mark. Pakistan eventually finished on 119/9 from their 20 overs.

Sadia Iqbal Changes the Chase

Thailand's response immediately came under severe pressure. Sadia Iqbal struck twice in her opening over, dismissing Phannita Maya and Nannapat Koncharoenkai to produce a double-wicket maiden.

The early damage meant Thailand had very little opportunity to establish momentum during the Powerplay. Their batters found it difficult to rotate the strike against Pakistan's disciplined spin attack.

Nattakan Chantam and captain Naruemol Chaiwai attempted to steady the innings, but Thailand managed only 22 runs during the first six overs.

Aphisara Suwanchonrathi and Chanida Sutthiruang attempted to add some useful runs in the closing overs. However, Suwanchonrathi was dismissed by Tuba, leaving Thailand at 65/5 in the 17th over.

Chanida provided the best late contribution for Thailand, scoring 25 from 24 balls, but the target had already moved beyond their reach.

Sadia Finishes the Job

Sadia Iqbal returned for the final over and completed her excellent spell by dismissing Chanida Sutthiruang. She finished with 3/11 from four overs, including a maiden.
