Miane Smit’s Maiden T20I Century Drives South Africa to 4-0 Lead

Miane Smit announced herself on the international stage with a stunning maiden T20I century as South Africa Women continued their dominant tour of Zimbabwe with an 80-run victory in the fourth match at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

After being asked to bat first, South Africa produced another powerful batting display, reaching 205/4 from their 20 overs. Smit was at the centre of the innings, combining clean strokeplay with controlled aggression to score 102.

Zimbabwe's response never gathered enough momentum. The hosts finished on 125/5 after 20 overs, leaving South Africa with a fourth straight victory and a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.

Smit Produces a Breakthrough Knock

Playing only her fourth T20I, Smit took responsibility at the top of the order and immediately put pressure on the Zimbabwean bowling attack. She reached her century from just 58 deliveries before being dismissed in the final ball of the 19th over.

Her innings contained 17 boundaries and a six, underlining the level of attacking cricket she produced throughout her stay at the crease. The century was the first of her international T20 career and came in only her second appearance of the series.

Strong Start With Anneke Bosch

Smit found an effective opening partner in Anneke Bosch. The pair added 74 runs from 51 deliveries to give South Africa an excellent platform during the early stages of the innings.

Bosch played a supporting role during her 24-ball stay while Smit increasingly took control of the scoring. One of the most productive moments came in the eighth over, when Smit attacked Christine Mutasa and collected 17 runs from the over.

The defining moment of the innings arrived during the 19th over when Smit reached her century with a boundary off Michelle Mavunga. She had required only 58 balls to reach the landmark.

Smit was dismissed from the final delivery of the same over, but her contribution had already put South Africa firmly in control. Nondumiso Shangase added a boundary in the final over as the Proteas finished on 205/4.

Zimbabwe Struggle During the Chase

Mavunga Provides Late Resistance

Michelle Mavunga offered some late resistance with a quick 25 from 13 deliveries. Her innings included two boundaries and a six and gave Zimbabwe some momentum towards the end of the chase.

However, the required run rate had already moved beyond Zimbabwe's reach. Caitlin Wyngaard eventually dismissed Mavunga with the penultimate delivery of the innings, leaving Zimbabwe on 125/5 after their 20 overs.

Wyngaard Leads the Bowling Effort

Caitlin Wyngaard was South Africa's most successful bowler, finishing with 2/15. Her contribution helped ensure that Zimbabwe never developed enough momentum during the chase.

Despite the hosts' efforts in the middle overs, the South African attack kept the scoring under control and completed another comfortable victory.

The 80-run victory gave South Africa their fourth consecutive win of the tour. They had already won the first three matches and entered the fourth T20I with a 3-0 advantage.
