What the Investigation Alleged

The controversy follows an investigation published by Tehelka involving former domestic cricketer Rachit Bhatia. According to the investigation, Bhatia claimed that he had access to confidential information concerning Chennai Super Kings during the 2025 IPL season.

The report alleged that Bhatia obtained information about playing XIs before official announcements and shared it with people connected to betting markets. It further reported his claim that he had received ₹60 lakh per match and earned ₹3 crore from five matches during the 2025 season.

These are allegations made during an undercover investigation and have not been established as facts by an independent investigation or official disciplinary finding. The CSK official quoted by Cricbuzz specifically said the information available so far remains unverified.

Claims About the 2026 IPL

The investigation also reported claims concerning the 2026 IPL. Bhatia allegedly told the undercover reporters that he could arrange access to confidential information if his source was acquired by a franchise during the auction.

The report further described an alleged offer involving ₹1 crore and a claimed 90 per cent guarantee in relation to fixing matches. The source said to be involved was reportedly not selected in the auction.

Importantly, these claims have not been presented as established match-fixing findings. The distinction between allegations made during a sting operation and verified corruption findings remains significant.

DPL Allegations Also Part of the Investigation

The Tehelka investigation also covered the Delhi Premier League. It reported that Bhatia claimed he could obtain classified information relating to Central Delhi Kings.

The investigation said that information supplied before the August 3 Central Delhi Kings versus North Delhi Strikers match matched the officially announced playing XI. Tehelka reported that negotiations over payment subsequently took place, although it said its reporter did not pay the amount demanded.

The Delhi & District Cricket Association has separately confirmed that it received a report of a corrupt approach involving a player during the DPL and informed the BCCI. The DDCA has stressed that the claims surrounding the wider sting remain unverified.

Vansh Bedi Denies Any Connection

The controversy has also led to speculation about the identity of players allegedly connected with the claims. Delhi wicketkeeper-batter Vansh Bedi, who had been associated with CSK in 2025 and played for Central Delhi Kings in the 2026 DPL, has publicly denied involvement.

Bedi described attempts to connect him to the sting operation as false and defamatory. His statement came after reports identified him as a player who had received a corrupt approach during the DPL. Reports said that approach was immediately reported to the relevant anti-corruption authorities.

CSK Says It Will Examine the Matter

A CSK official told Cricbuzz that the board would discuss the allegations at its upcoming meeting. The official also emphasised that the information available at present has not been verified.

The board's discussion is therefore expected to focus on understanding the allegations, examining any available evidence and determining whether further action or communication with cricket authorities is necessary.

Anti-Corruption Authorities Already Involved

The developments come amid increased attention on integrity issues across Indian franchise cricket. The DDCA has said it communicated with the BCCI after a player reported a suspected corrupt approach during the Delhi Premier League.

The BCCI's anti-corruption mechanisms are responsible for investigating potential breaches of its anti-corruption regulations, while official findings would be required before allegations can be treated as established wrongdoing.

CSK's Previous Betting Controversy

Chennai Super Kings have previously faced a major betting-related controversy. In 2015, the franchise was suspended from the IPL for two seasons after the Lodha Committee's proceedings relating to illegal betting involving a member of the franchise's ownership group.
