Profile Summary
Part of three U19 World Cups - in 2016, 2018 and 2020, Wessly Madhevere had been earmarked as a future Zimbabwe star from a very young age. Starting as an off-break bowler who could be very handy with the bat down the order, Madhevere worked on his batting skills and slowly climbed up the order to become a genuine all-rounder. Representing the Mashonaland Eagles in the domestic circuit, Madhevere made his first-class and List-A debuts in the 2019-20 season and just a few months later, in March 2020, he made his international debut against Bangladesh. His Test debut came a year later against Afghanistan and Madhevere quickly established himself as a resourceful player across formats.
In March of 2023 in an ODI series against the Netherlands, Madhevere became only the third Zimbabwean cricketer to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket. Later the same year, Madhevere suffered a setback after being suspended for four months by Zimbabwe Cricket following a failed drugs test. However, he made a successful return to the side after serving his ban.
