Profile Summary
With both his parents having represented Western Australia as cricketers, his father the 2nd XI and his mother the Women's team, it was no surprise when a 20-year old Josh Philippe broke into Western Australia's Shield squad in the 2017/18 season. Prior to that, Philippe had already made his T20 debut playing for the Perth Scorchers in the same season.
Batting in a mold that somewhat remotely resembles Steve Smith, Philippe is a top-order wicket-keeper batter. After spending a season at the Scorchers, Philippe moved to the Sydney Sixers for the following season and some impressive performances meant that he'd bagged an IPL contract from the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020 even before making an international appearance. While his performances were nothing to write home about, Philippe had bigger things in store. He was handed a T20I cap during a series against New Zealand in February 2021 and an ODI debut came later the same year in a series against the West Indies. While by no means a regular, Philippe has ensured that the international selectors keep a close watch on him.
