Profile Summary
Quickly recognizable by his tall frame and bespectacled look, Todd Murphy made headlines when he, after having played just seven first-class games, was selected as one of Australia's spinners on their tour to India in 2023. Hailing from Echuca, Victoria, Murphy plies his trade as an off-spinner. He made all of his first-class, List-A and T20 debuts in the 2020/21 season and made a quick impression on selectors. Going through the crease quickly and generally bowling tight lines at a higher pace, Murphy offered something unique to the other spinners that were on the radar.
Murphy's Test debut came at Nagpur and he finished the game with impressive figures of 7/124. He played all four Tests of the series and retained his spot for the forthcoming Ashes series in England. Batting left-handed and more than capable of wielding the willow, Murphy also made some handy contributions with the bat.
