Profile Summary

It's tough to be a wicket-keeper, there's no room for the second best. If one has to feature regularly for the national team, he needs to be the best in the business from his country. Graham Manou, one of the brightest wicket-keepers in the Australian circuit, was often the second best and hence could only be considered a filler in absence of the senior wicket-keepers.

He made his Test debut during the 2008-09 Ashes when the first choice keeper Brad Haddin injured his finger and Manou replaced him for the Edgbaston Test. However, that turned out to be his solitary Test. Not after long, he was called in to replace Tim Paine for a series in India. On that tour he featured in four ODIs for the Aussies. Manou came into the Australian team on the back of two Pura Cup centuries that helped him win the selectors' faith and he was preferred over Matthew Wade and Luke Ronchi. He suffered a knee injury at the end of 2008-09 season and had to lose captaincy.

Having impressed at the junior level with his keeping skills, he came into limelight when he was named as Tim Nielsen's replacement in the South Australia team. Although, he was a talented wicket-keeper against all forms of attack, he did not have a great outing with the bat at the start of his career. But a couple of years down the line, he established himself as a decent batter as well - the signs of which were felt when he scored a century as an opener for the side in 2003-04.
