Profile Summary
A quick bowler, Gavin Tonge was picked for the 2009 home series against Bangladesh in the aftermath of West Indies' first XI going on protest over pay disputes. Despite failing to make a mark in the ODI series, Tonge was selected for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2009. The fact that the senior players pulled out again helped his cause. Tonge collected fine figures of 4-25 against Pakistan but it was not enough to prevent the latter from winning the game. He was not able to sustain the intensity which meant he was overlooked soon after.
Tonge was handed his Test debut the same year against the Aussies at Perth in place of an injured Darren Sammy. Struggling with his lines and lengths, he conceded 113 runs for a meagre wicket. He has not returned to the international scene since then.
