Profile Summary
A 99 on debut against South Africa, a second innings 87 at Sydney, a dogged 91 at Mohali were the efforts of Asim Kamal in a 20-innings long career. However, the selectors never backed him and despite being the glue to a fragile middle order, Asim could serve Pakistan between 2003-2005.
Someone who had a pristine cover drive in his armory, Asim was more solid and robust than being elegant. His doggedness at the crease was something for Pakistan during that period as there was an overhaul of the side post the 2003 WC.
Asim continued plying his trade at the domestic circuit till 2015. A middling average of 34 odd at the first-class level for the kind of impact he could have had at the international level, given his start at the big stage. Not all the good beginnings have the perfect endings.
