Profile Summary
Born in Mymensingh, Sanwar Hossain is a right-handed batsman from Bangladesh. The middle-order batter made his international debut in 1998 against India in an ODI game at Dhaka. He notched up his maiden ODI fifty in 2001 against Zimbabwe. Despite continuous low scores, he was selected for the 2003 ODI World Cup held in South Africa, where he scored just 63 runs in six innings.
After a disappointing WC campaign, when Bangladesh toured Australia, Hossain was reported for chucking in the second Test at Cairns. Though his action was under scrutiny, he was allowed to play the ODI series which followed the Tests. He was dropped from the national side after a string of low scores.
Sanwar became an employee at a national airline - Biman Bangladesh Airlines - in 2004. After a gap of more than a year, Hossain was recalled for the home series against India in November 2004. Though he was part of the 15-member squad, Hossain couldn’t make it to the playing eleven. In 2005, he announced his retirement from domestic cricket.
