Profile Summary

Don Anurasiri, the slow left-arm orthodox, had an interesting career. Despite making his Test debut at the age of 20, Anurasiri never really cemented his place in the side. However, whenever he got a chance to play, he usually put in a good effort for his country. Anurasiri made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1986. It was in the next series against India though, when he showed his worth by picking up four wickets in a Test in Cuttack.

For the next six years, he remained on the periphery of the Sri Lankan side. It was in that nerve-wracking Test against Australia at Colombo (SSC) that he again shone brightly by bowling 35 overs and picking up four wickets. Unfortunately, that effort went in vain as Australia won a cliffhanger.

When Sri Lanka won the Test series against New Zealand in 1992-93, Anurasiri played the supporting role to Muralitharan and Warnaweera to perfection. The Indian batsmen, famed for their ability against spin bowling though, didn't have much of a problem collecting runs off his bowling in 1994. He made a comeback for one Test against Zimbabwe in 1998, but that turned out to be his last game for Sri Lanka. Anurasiri also represented his country in ODIs, but with modest success.
