Profile Summary

A steady off-break bowler, who relies more on discipline rather than turn, Arshad Khan made his Test debut against West Indies at Peshawar in 1997. His finest hour though arrived when he picked 5-38 against Sri Lanka, helping Pakistan clinch the Asian Test championship final the next year. However, such quality displays were few and far between. Arshad Khan was more used in a 'holding role' even in ODIs.

Moreover, Saqlain Mushtaq's rapid rise meant that opportunities were limited. He would have been a regular in the side had he born in another era.

Four years after being dropped, he shone against India in the Bangalore Test in 2005 as Pakistan sealed a tense win in the last session to draw the series. He then ventured into the rebel Indian Cricket League, which rang the death knell for his international career.
