Profile Summary
Balwinder Singh Sandhu's incoming delivery to West Indies opener Gordon Greenidge in the 1983 World Cup final was the highlight of his cricketing career. Greenidge, who misjudged the line, was bowled as he offered no shot and that gave India the belief that they could defend a small total.
After making his first-class debut for Mumbai in 1980, Sandhu made his international debut two years later, in an ODI against Pakistan at Gujranwala. He travelled to West Indies to play a few ODIs, before playing the World Cup.
Sandhu was a bowler, who was no mug with the bat and he proved that on his Test debut in 1983 by top-scoring for India in the first innings. He scored another fifty a few months later, against the might West Indies in their own backyard.
However, Sandhu's international career just two years as he never played for India again, after October 31, 1984. Post retirement, Sandhu has coached Ranji sides Mumbai and Punjab, apart from being a part of the National Cricket Academy.
