Profile Summary

For close to 18 years, Jacob Martin was a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. He mainly played for Baroda and captained them to Ranji Trophy triumph in 2000-01. Martin also represented his country in a few ODIs, but struggled to make his mark.

Martin, known for notching up tall scores, came into prominence when he cracked more than 1,000 runs in the Ranji Trophy in 1998-99. He made his debut in a ODI against West Indies in Toronto in 1999. He was also selected to tour Australia in 1999-00.

In what turned out to be a tough tour for India, Martin showed glimpses of his potential. In the tri-series, Martin gave a good account of himself on a trampoline WACA wicket against Pakistan. While facing up to a strong Pakistani attack, he showed good temperament and defence. Unfortunately, he was run-out quite a few times during that tournament. After that tour, Martin found himself in the wilderness.

Martin didn't lose heart as he had a fabulous 2000-01 season when he yet again amassed over 1,000 runs in First-Class cricket. He was picked for the tri-series in South Africa in 2001. Unfortunately, he only played a couple of games against Kenya. He didn't get the chance to wear his cap for India again.

Martin though, continued to perform well in the domestic circuit. He hung up his spiked boots after the 2008-09 First-Class season.
