Profile Summary
By design, Bruce Blair was a batting all-rounder and had tremendous success in domestic cricket for Northern Districts and Otago. The same cannot be said about his career with New Zealand as the returns were mediocre to say the least. Blair never played a Test match for the country and his ODI career was brief as well as disappointing. He never scored a half-century and picked just a solitary wicket in the 14 matches he played. His ability to be a proactive batsman who could chip in with useful medium pace, potentially guaranteed a good team balance but his continuous inconsistency robbed him of a long career. Bruce was born into a family of cricketers with his father, brother and great uncle all
having played first-class cricket at some point. Despite being blessed with a great potential and family backing, Blair could never make it big on the international stage and had to be content with being a domestic star.
