Profile Summary
A tall, strapping fast bowler, who hits the deck hard, Sajid Mahmood was marked as an exciting prospect when he made his ODI debut in 2004 but his profligacy meant that he was in and out of the side.
He can generate lifting bounce from a length on one day and spray the ball all over the shop the very next day. Born in Bolton, he joined Lancashire in 2002 thanks to a scholarship.
Later on, he moved to Essex after taking 206 wickets for the Red Rose county. He was picked for the 2007 World Cup but failed to deliver, resulting in him being dropped. In the interim, Mahmood made 8 appearances in Tests without much success to show for.
He earned an international recall 2 years later but his consistency was no better. Mahmood was dropped again, this time for good.
