Profile Summary
Keith Fletcher was an attractive batsman, who scored 3272 Test runs at an average of just a smidge under 40. He was in full flow against spin but came up short against quality pace, especially against the short ball.
Fletcher was given his Test debut against Australia at Headingley in 1968. However, the debut century did not come to pass until his twientieth Test appearance.
Meanwhile, Fletcher's best score of 216 came against New Zealand in 1975 in a massive winning cause. Following the retirement of Mike Brearley, Flectcher was handed over the captaincy reins but failed miserably. His short captaincy stint oversaw series defeats against India and Sri Lanka and he was unceremoniously dumped by the selectors.
Fletcher though enjoyed a sweeter captaincy tenture with Essex. After retirement, he served as the manager of the England team from 1993-95.
