Profile Summary

An left-handed opening batsman, Chris Broad played 25 Tests and 34 ODIs with considerable success. He was handed his Test debut against against the visiting West Indies at Lord's in 1984. He began brightly, scoring 55 in a 101-run opening stand with Graeme Fowler. Gradually, he progressed to become an attacking player with his crowning glory coming in the 1986/87 Ashes series, wherein he cracked three centuries in successive Tests.

However, his form tailed off a year later after which he was dropped from the team. His attack-first instinct often spilled over into recklessness, thus applying too much pressure on the middle order. After retiring from all forms of competitive cricket, Broad joined the BBC TV commentary team before it was scrapped.

Later on, Chris Broad went on to become an ICC Match Referee. His son, Stuart is one of the mainstays in the England bowling attack, while his daughter, Gemma is a performance analyst with the England ODI side.
