Profile Summary

A fast bowler, who produced scorching pace, Devon Malcolm played 40 Tests and 10 ODIs for England. His finest hour arrived when he picked up 9/57 against South Africa at the Oval in 1994. Swinging the ball in addition to generating a good head of steam, Malcolm scythed through the South African batting to mastermind a 8-wicket win, helping England square the Test series and with it win the Man of the Match as well as the Man of the Series award.

Born February 22, 1963, Kingston, Jamaica, Malcolm honed his skills at Derbyshire. He was given his Test debut in 1989 against Australia and gradually progressed to become an important ingredient in the England bowling attack. He possessed that shock factor but was often guilty of blowing hot and cold. His altercation with Ray Illingworth in 1995-96 underlined his volatile temperament and he was dropped soon after.

However, Malcolm continued to be a force to reckon with in county cricket until his retirement in 2003.
