Profile Summary

Born August 13, 1961, Kirk Sandall, Yorkshire, Neil Mallender had a late boost to his career when he was picked for England at the age of 30. In his debut Test against Pakistan at Headingley in 1992, he bagged 5-50 in the second innings to go with 3-72 in the first. He struggled in the next Test at Oval and was unceremoniously dropped for the subsequent tour to India and Sri Lanka.

In addition to representing Somerset and Northamptonshire in the county cricket, Mallender also plied his trade for Otago. Overall, he took 937 first-class wickets before retiring in 1996. He then turned to umpiring. After officiating in county games, Mallender went onto make his umpiring Test debut in 2003. The next year, he was inducted into the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires.
