Profile Summary
A highly popular bowling coach in international cricket and across T20 leagues, Eric Simons was a utility bowling all-rounder during his playing days for South Africa. He wasn't brisk in terms of pace and as his career went on, the speeds dropped even further. However, he was a very smart operator and had all the tricks to succeed, especially in the shorter format of the game. Simons never got picked for South Africa's Test side but did play over 20 ODIs, all during the 1994-95 season. He was very effective too as a bowler but under-performed heavily as a batsman, considering that he had a couple of First-class tons to his name. In the domestic circuit, Simons was good enough to bat no.8, if not no.7 but that level of efficiency never came in international cricket. After retirement, he got into coaching and was the bowling consultant for Team India during the 2010s and is presently the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
