Profile Summary
Born on January 8, 1986, Mayowo is a top-order batsman who had already played FC cricket before captaining Zimbabwe at the U-19 WC in 2003-04. He laid emphasis on his education and was limited in his earlier appearances for the country, but his class was noticed and was called for the 'A' team test match against Bangladesh in 2006.
He made his ODI debut in the same year but failed to keep his place for the 2007 WC in the Caribbean Islands. He was later appointed as the skipper of the 'A' team, but was stripped of his place due to inappropriate behavior during a camp at Bulawayo. He continued to be highly impressive scoring a lot of runs at the domestic level.
When Zimbabwe returned to the Test fold in 2011, Mayowo was drafted in as the opener. Mayowo has continued to impress with his water tight technique and carried his bat to remain unbeaten on 163 in his very 2nd Test match against Pakistan.
He continues to remain Zimbabwe's first choice opener in Test cricket although he has not been effective in limited overs cricket. His performances have been largely inconsistent and he has remained mostly on the fringes of the national team.
Interesting fact: It was only the 47th time that an opener had carried his bat in an innings and Mayowo was the 3rd Zimbabwean to do so.
