Profile Summary

Born in Northern Ireland, Peter Gillespie played most of his cricket for hometown club Strabane. He is famously known for scoring three ducks in his first three One-Day International (ODI) innings (dismissed with his third ball, second ball and then first ball). However, he was a far better cricketer than what his ODI numbers suggest. At one point in time, he had played the most number of games for Ireland.

In the 2006 C&G Trophy, Gillespie was Ireland's best batsman with 247 runs, including 41 in the final against Gloucestershire. The previous year, he made vital contributions in the ICC Trophy and averaged 34.25. Though he started as a medium pacer, injuries forced him to become a middle order batsman. The right-hander retired just before the start of the 2007 50-over World Cup.
