Profile Summary

Born on October 20, 1986, Robiul Islam is a right arm fast medium bowler. Robiul is sometimes referred by his nickname Shiplu. Robiul had a decent FC career with 127 wickets which also included six 5-wkt hauls and a 10-wkt haul.

Robiul was selected for the tour of England in 2010 and made his debut at the Lord's Test. He bowled 23 expensive wicket-less overs and was promptly dropped from the squad. He did make a comeback of sorts during Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe in the next year and ended with match figures of 3/154.

He always remained around the Test team but didn't play much after a poor Zimbabwe series. However, things started to change as he picked up 29 wickets from 7 first class matches, which helped him return to the Test squad. He was then selected for the first Test against Zimbabwe in 2013, he played a Test after 16 months. Robiul finished the Test series with 15 wickets in two Tests. This was the most wickets taken by a Bangladeshi seamer in a Test series. However, form deserted him in the home series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. He didn't pick up a single wicket in the two matches that he played, which prompted the selectors to drop him for the second Test against Sri Lanka in February 2014.
