Profile Summary
A right-handed batsman who can also bowl useful medium pace, Daryl Mitchell, has been part of the Worcestershire folklore and served as their regular captain for six long years, before finally passing on the mantle to Joe Leach.
Under Mitchell's astute captaincy, Worcestershire prospered, 2010 was perhaps his biggest achievement as captain when he rallied Worcestershire to overturn a 37-point deficit to Glamorgan and clinch championship promotion. While his captaincy was inspiring, Mitchell was a no mean batsman either. His 298 against Somerset still stands as the fifth highest individual score by a Worcestershire batsman in Championship cricket.
Appointed as Vikram Solanki's deputy in 2009, Mitchell struck a rich vein of form and had racked up 1,000 runs by mid-August in 2009 - three of them coming in consecutive innings. It wasn't a surprise that he took over the captaincy duties after Solanki resigned at the end of the season.
