The third generation member of his famous family to play for Worcestershire, Brett is the grandson of Basil D 'Oliveira, the man who went into the record books as a black member of the England national team who was denied a chance to travel with the squad to South Africa in 1968 - at the height of apartheid policy.
Brett is another of those hard-working journeymen who have risen up the ranks playing age-level cricket for Worcestershire. Even personal tragedies haven't got in his way as he rose up the ranks. He lost his grandfather in 2011, the year when he made his Worcestershire debut. Two years later, he lost his father, Darmian, but the losses didn't stand in his way towards development.
An useful all-rounder, Brett abandoned his thoughts of becoming a fast bowler after working under Terry Jenner, Shane Warne's mentor, who inspired him towards becoming a leg-spinner. On his day, he can make big runs, as his career-best score of 202* against Glamorgan reveals. It's the consistency that's holding back Brett from becoming a regular feature in the Worcestershire starting line-up.
