Profile Summary

Martin is considered a veteran in domestic cricket. He first came onto the first class arena when he was named in the squad for the U-19 World Cup in 1997/98. Since then he has played over 100 first class games for Northern Districts and Auckland before making his debut for the National team.

Martin was a like for like replacement for another veteran Daniel Vettori for the England series in March 2013. After starting off well with a fourth wicket haul in the first innings of his first Test, he has not been able to sustain such performances. The emergence of young leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has made it difficult for Martin to keep his place in the side. But, with the 14 years of experience in first class cricket, he will know that he has to perform better, if he needs to get back in the team.

Fact: Martin is a resilient lower-order batsman who has two first class centuries to his name.
