Profile Summary
Interestingly, when Shivam Sharma made his IPL debut for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he did not have a first-class, list-a or a twenty20 match under his belt. All he played was under-19 cricket for Delhi.
Thanks KXIP coach Sanjay Bangar that Shivam Sharma came into the limelight. Having worked with a group of youngsters who just came out of the under-19 level, Bangar, impressed by Sharma's cricket, called for a KXIP selection trail.
Sharma did enough to convince Bangar and he was bought by KXIP at the 2014 IPL auctions. He had a sensational average with both bat and ball at the under-19 level and he justified his coach's selection by bowling exceptionally well against RCB in their own backyard. He played three more matches that season and did fairly well in the opportunities that he got.
