Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill once again showed how effectively they can combine at the crease during India's first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. After India lost Rohit Sharma for 32, Kohli joined Gill at the crease and the pair quickly established control of the chase. They added 151 runs for the second wicket from 132 deliveries, taking the game away from the West Indies bowling attack.

Gill eventually fell for 110 from 108 balls, while Kohli continued until the finish and guided India to victory. Their partnership was their second 150-plus stand in ODIs, following their 189-run association against Sri Lanka during the 2023 World Cup.

Speaking about his relationship with Gill, Kohli explained that their communication while batting is not usually centred on detailed discussions about the match.

The senior batter said their relationship has remained free-flowing and enjoyable since Gill first entered the Indian team. With Gill now leading the side and Kohli operating as one of the senior players, Kohli believes maintaining a relaxed atmosphere can help the entire group handle pressure.

Kohli reached 15,000 ODI runs in 303 innings, while Tendulkar required 377 innings to reach the same figure. The milestone added another statistical highlight to a memorable individual performance.

Despite reaching another huge personal milestone, Kohli stressed that individual numbers have never been his primary motivation. He explained that longevity at international level depends on maintaining a focus on winning matches for the team.
