Asian Games 2026•2nd Semi-Final

Ishan Kishan Stars as India Storm Into Asian Games Final With 124-Run Win

Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 80 and a ruthless bowling performance powered India to a 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2026 semifinal. India posted 169/7 on a challenging surface before dismissing Sri Lanka for just 45 in 9.5 overs. The result sends India into the gold-medal final against Pakistan on October 3.

Ishan Kishan Stars as India Storm Into Asian Games Final With 124-Run Win

India produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the second semi-final of the men's cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Nisshin, Japan.

After being asked to bat first, India overcame a difficult, spin-friendly surface to post 169/7 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan provided the decisive batting contribution with an unbeaten 80 from 46 balls before India's bowlers dismantled the Sri Lankan chase for only 45 in 9.5 overs.

Kishan Rescues India After Early Wickets

India's innings began with immediate pressure as Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were both dismissed for seven. India were reduced to 24/2 before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi changed the momentum with an attacking innings.

The teenager struck 38 from only 21 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. His aggressive approach helped India move beyond 50 during the Powerplay before he was dismissed by Sahan Arachchige.

Once Sooryavanshi departed, Kishan took greater control of the innings. He used the crease effectively against Sri Lanka's spinners and repeatedly found boundary options despite the uneven bounce and turn.

Ishan Kishan Finishes Unbeaten on 80

Kishan remained unbeaten on 80 from 46 deliveries, striking four fours and five sixes. His innings became the foundation of India's competitive total on a surface where stroke-making was not straightforward.

The left-hander accelerated during the closing overs, producing a series of powerful shots to take India from a modest position to 169/7.

His unbeaten knock was particularly valuable because most of India's other batters struggled to maintain a consistent scoring rate on the turning pitch.

India Reach 169/7

Shreyas Iyer contributed 13, while Axar Patel and the lower order added useful runs around Kishan. Sri Lanka's Sahan Arachchige and Tharindu Ratnayake claimed two wickets each.

India eventually reached 169/7 from their 20 overs, leaving Sri Lanka requiring 170 for victory and a place in the Asian Games final.

Bumrah Strikes Twice in the Opening Over

Sri Lanka's chase quickly turned into a collapse. Jasprit Bumrah delivered two wickets in his opening over, immediately putting the batting side under severe pressure.

The Indian pace and spin attacks maintained that pressure throughout the innings. Axar Patel also took two wickets, while Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi contributed with tight spells.

Sri Lanka Collapse to 45

Sri Lanka struggled to establish even one meaningful partnership. Their batting innings was further damaged by three run-outs as India's fielders remained sharp under pressure.

The scoreboard soon read 31/6 inside the Powerplay and then 33/7. With no sustained resistance from the lower order, Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for only 45 in 9.5 overs.

Bumrah finished with 2/7, while Axar Patel took 2/8. Abhishek Sharma also claimed the final two wickets with successive deliveries to complete the emphatic victory.

One of India's Biggest T20I Wins

The 124-run margin gave India one of their largest victories in men's T20I cricket and represented a comprehensive response after a challenging batting start.

The result also highlighted India's bowling depth. The attack adapted effectively to the turning surface and made sure Sri Lanka never established momentum during the chase.

India Set Up Gold-Medal Clash With Pakistan

The victory sends India into the Asian Games gold-medal match, where they will face Pakistan on October 3 in Nisshin.

Pakistan had already secured the other final spot earlier in the day after defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-shortened semi-final. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will now meet in the bronze-medal match.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Gets Valuable Opportunity

The semifinal also marked Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's return to India's T20I side after he missed the preceding Afghanistan series. The 17-year-old immediately made an impact with his 38 off 21 balls.

His aggressive innings provided India with important momentum after the early dismissals and gave the team another attacking option at the top of the order.

India's Final Challenge Awaits

India will now turn their attention to the gold-medal match against Pakistan. The final will bring together two teams that reached the summit clash through contrasting semifinal victories.

India will carry confidence from their dominant performance against Sri Lanka, while the final will provide another opportunity for the Indian squad to compete for an Asian Games gold medal.
