Abhishek, Tilak and Dube Hold Off Pakistan as India Retain Asian Games Gold
India retained the Asian Games men's cricket gold medal with a thrilling 19-run victory over Pakistan. Abhishek Sharma smashed 61 off 28 balls before Tilak Varma's unbeaten 51 and Shivam Dube's late assault powered India to 211/6. Hasan Nawaz responded with a brilliant 96, but India's bowlers held their nerve to restrict Pakistan to 192/6.

India successfully defended their Asian Games men's cricket title after defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in a high-scoring gold-medal final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Abhishek Sharma gave India an explosive start with 61 from 28 deliveries before Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube provided a powerful finish to lift the defending champions to 211/6. Pakistan threatened to produce a remarkable chase through Hasan Nawaz's 96, but India's bowlers maintained their composure during the closing overs to secure another gold medal.
India Choose to Set the Target
Captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first, giving India's aggressive top order an opportunity to put Pakistan under immediate pressure.
The decision quickly paid off. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek attacked Pakistan's spin options from the beginning, helping India race through the early overs.
Saad Masood's second over proved particularly costly. Sooryavanshi struck two sixes before Abhishek joined the assault, with India collecting 24 runs from the over.
Abhishek Sharma Ignites the Final
Sooryavanshi departed while attempting an attacking stroke, but his dismissal did little to slow Abhishek. The left-hander continued targeting anything short and ensured India maintained an exceptional scoring rate.
India reached 50 in only 3.2 overs and finished the Powerplay with 81 runs on the board.
Abhishek completed his half-century from just 20 deliveries. Although Pakistan missed opportunities to dismiss him earlier, he capitalised on those chances and eventually finished with 61 from 28 balls.
His innings provided India with the foundation for what became the highest team total of the men's cricket competition at the Games.
Pakistan's Spinners Fight Back
Arafat Minhas eventually removed Abhishek, and Pakistan began to regain control through their spin attack.
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer attempted to consolidate after the explosive opening period, but India's scoring rate slowed considerably. Pakistan produced a 34-ball period without conceding a boundary as the innings temporarily lost momentum.
Kishan was dismissed while attempting a pull, while Iyer was unable to convert his start into a substantial contribution.
Tilak Varma Restarts India's Charge
India needed another acceleration approaching the final four overs, and Tilak Varma delivered it at exactly the right moment.
Tilak ended the long boundary drought at the beginning of the 17th over before Dube joined the attack. The pair began finding the boundary regularly and pushed Pakistan's bowlers back under pressure.
Tilak was particularly effective when deliveries were offered in his hitting zone, while Dube used his power to target the straight boundaries.
Dube Adds the Late Power
Dube's 27 provided India with crucial late momentum. His ability to clear the boundary helped transform what had briefly looked like a slowing innings into an imposing total.
The 19th over produced 23 runs as India accelerated sharply. Dube was dismissed early in the final over, but Tilak continued the assault.
The left-hander struck two more sixes and completed his half-century from only 21 deliveries. Tilak remained unbeaten on 51 from 22 balls as India finished with 211/6.
Pakistan Lose Early Wickets
Pakistan required a fast start to keep pace with a target of 212, but India's bowlers prevented them from dominating the Powerplay.
Jasprit Bumrah used extra bounce effectively, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar applied pressure with spin.
Pakistan finished the Powerplay on 39/2, already facing a rapidly increasing required run rate.
Hasan Nawaz Keeps Pakistan Alive
Despite the early setbacks, Hasan Nawaz refused to allow the chase to fade away. He combined with Saim Ayub for an 87-run partnership that brought Pakistan back into contention.
Nawaz survived a difficult chance following a collision between Indian fielders and immediately made India pay. He attacked Ravi Bishnoi aggressively, clearing the boundary repeatedly as Pakistan began to rebuild momentum.
Ayub supported him with 29, ensuring Pakistan still had an opportunity heading towards the closing stages.
Dube Makes an Impact With the Ball
With the partnership becoming increasingly dangerous, Iyer turned to Dube. The all-rounder made an immediate impact by dismissing Ayub and breaking the stand.
The wicket again pushed the required scoring rate upward, but Nawaz continued attacking and kept Pakistan mathematically in the contest.
India were not flawless in the field, with missed opportunities allowing Pakistan to remain alive longer than expected. However, the bowlers continued creating enough pressure to prevent the chase from getting completely out of control.
Washington Sundar Delivers Crucial Over
Pakistan entered the final four overs needing 68 runs. With Nawaz still at the crease, India could not afford a significant late collapse with the ball.
Washington produced one of the decisive overs of the final in the 18th. He removed Abdul Samad and conceded only eight runs despite a six from the final delivery.
The over left Pakistan needing an increasingly unlikely finish.
Bumrah Keeps His Nerve
Bumrah then handled the penultimate over. Although Pakistan managed a six, the fast bowler consistently attacked the blockhole and prevented Nawaz from producing the enormous over his side required.
Pakistan entered the final over needing 33 runs, leaving Dube with a substantial cushion to defend.
A boundary and a wide briefly delayed India's celebrations, but Dube responded with a yorker that effectively ended Pakistan's remaining hopes.
Nawaz's 96 Ends in Defeat
Nawaz continued fighting until the final delivery but was dismissed for 96 as Pakistan finished on 192/6 from their 20 overs.
His innings had transformed a difficult chase into a genuine contest and forced India to remain alert until the closing overs.
However, Pakistan's early wickets and India's imposing total ultimately left Nawaz with too much to overcome.
India's Spinners Share the Wickets
Axar Patel and Washington Sundar both finished with figures of 2/29, while Dube completed an excellent all-round performance with 2/33.
Dube's contribution proved particularly valuable. After scoring 27 during India's late batting surge, he returned to break the Nawaz-Ayub partnership and then handled the responsibility of bowling the final over.
India Successfully Defend Their Asian Games Crown
The 19-run victory gave India their second consecutive gold medal in the men's cricket competition at the Asian Games.
India had won the title when men's cricket was last included at the 2023 Games in Hangzhou. Three years later in Japan, a different Indian squad ensured the gold medal remained with the defending champions.
Abhishek's fearless Powerplay batting, Tilak's composed late assault and Dube's all-round contribution were central to the victory, while India's bowlers responded under pressure when Nawaz threatened to produce an extraordinary Pakistan comeback.
A Cricket Gold Double for India
The men's triumph also completed a cricket gold-medal double for India at the 2026 Asian Games.
India's women's team had already won its competition, and the men's victory over Pakistan ensured both cricket gold medals went to India.
For Shreyas Iyer and his team, the final provided their toughest challenge of the tournament. Pakistan pushed the defending champions deep into the contest, but India ultimately had enough runs and enough control in the decisive moments to retain the Asian Games crown.
