Eboni Brathwaite's Record-Breaking Fifty Seals T20I Series for West Indies
Eboni Brathwaite smashed 57 from just 23 balls as West Indies Women defeated Zimbabwe by eight wickets in Harare to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Jahzara Claxton's three-wicket spell restricted Zimbabwe to 106/7 before Brathwaite's explosive Powerplay assault helped West Indies chase the target in only 9.1 overs.

Eboni Brathwaite produced a spectacular batting display as West Indies Women defeated Zimbabwe Women by eight wickets in the second T20I in Harare to seal the three-match series with one game still remaining.
The 17-year-old opener smashed 57 from only 23 deliveries, reaching her half-century in 20 balls. Her record-breaking assault powered West Indies to 108/2 in just 9.1 overs after Zimbabwe had managed 106/7 from their 20 overs.
Jahzara Claxton had earlier played a major role with the ball, taking 3/14 from her two overs and helping trigger a Zimbabwe collapse after the hosts had made a steady start.
Zimbabwe Make a Steady Start
Zimbabwe were put into bat and initially appeared capable of building a competitive total. Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza put together a 46-run opening partnership, keeping the West Indies bowlers under pressure during the early overs.
Ndhlovu's dismissal, however, changed the rhythm of the innings. Zimbabwe struggled to maintain their scoring rate and began losing wickets at regular intervals.
Biza continued to anchor the innings and eventually made 35 from 35 balls, but Zimbabwe were unable to find the acceleration they needed in the second half.
Claxton Triggers Zimbabwe's Collapse
Jahzara Claxton became the key figure in West Indies' bowling effort. She removed Beloved Biza in the 13th over and struck again with the very next delivery to dismiss Christine Mutasa for a duck.
Claxton returned in the final over and removed Zimbabwe captain Josephine Nkomo, completing an excellent spell of 3/14 from only two overs.
Zimbabwe slipped from 78/1 to 106/7, losing six wickets for just 28 runs. The collapse left West Indies with a modest target to chase.
Mugeri-Tiripano Tries to Hold the Innings Together
Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano provided some stability in the middle order with 25 from 28 balls. Her contribution helped Zimbabwe move beyond the 100-run mark, but the lack of late acceleration proved costly.
Once Claxton and the West Indies attack began taking wickets, Zimbabwe were unable to produce the kind of finish required to challenge a strong West Indies batting line-up.
The final total of 106/7 left West Indies needing only 107 runs from 20 overs.
Brathwaite Launches an Explosive Chase
West Indies wasted almost no time in taking control of the chase. Brathwaite attacked from the beginning and immediately put Zimbabwe's bowlers under severe pressure.
She reached her half-century in just 20 deliveries, setting the fastest fifty by a West Indies player in women's T20I cricket.
Her innings contained three fours and six sixes, with the boundaries coming at an extraordinary rate. By the time she was dismissed at the end of the sixth over, the match was effectively beyond Zimbabwe's reach.
A New West Indies T20I Record
Brathwaite's 20-ball fifty broke the previous West Indies women's T20I record held by Deandra Dottin, who had reached fifty from 22 balls against Australia in 2009.
The milestone underlined just how explosive Brathwaite's innings was. She did not simply accelerate the chase; she changed the contest within the opening six overs.
Her 57 from 23 balls came at a strike rate of almost 248, with six sixes providing much of the damage.
West Indies Race Through the Powerplay
The impact of Brathwaite's assault was reflected in West Indies' Powerplay score. They reached 69 runs during the first six overs, putting themselves within touching distance of victory.
Even after Brathwaite departed, Zimbabwe had very little opportunity to build pressure. Realeanna Grimmond continued attacking and ensured the required runs disappeared quickly.
Grimmond Finishes the Job
Realeanna Grimmond remained unbeaten on 23 from 16 deliveries, striking two sixes as she continued the aggressive approach established by Brathwaite.
Stafanie Taylor then finished the match with a boundary as West Indies reached 108/2 in only 9.1 overs.
The visitors therefore completed the chase with 65 balls remaining, underlining the enormous difference between the two teams' batting performances.
West Indies Seal the Series
The victory gave West Indies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. They had already won the opening T20I by eight wickets, and the second match produced another comfortable victory by the same margin.
The final match in Harare will now give Zimbabwe one last opportunity to avoid a series whitewash, while West Indies can approach the contest with the series already secured.
Brathwaite Emerges as the Match-Winner
Brathwaite's performance was the defining moment of the second T20I. Her ability to attack from the first ball gave West Indies complete control and ensured that the chase never became competitive.
At only 17, the opener's record-breaking innings also provides another encouraging sign for the future of West Indies women's cricket.
Claxton Complements the Batting Assault
While Brathwaite dominated the headlines, Claxton's three-wicket spell was equally important in shaping the result.
Her wickets at a crucial stage prevented Zimbabwe from converting their promising start into a substantial total. By restricting the hosts to 106/7, she gave the West Indies top order the freedom to attack without taking unnecessary risks.
Zimbabwe's Challenge
Zimbabwe will need to find a way to improve both their middle-overs batting and their response to aggressive opening attacks before the final match.
The hosts were competitive during the opening phase of their innings but lost momentum once the first wicket fell. Their bowling attack then struggled to contain Brathwaite's extraordinary Powerplay assault.
The final T20I provides an opportunity to finish the series with a stronger performance and take confidence from the competitive moments they created in the first half of the match.
One Match Still Remains
West Indies now lead the series 2-0, with the third and final T20I scheduled in Harare. The visitors will look to complete a clean sweep, while Zimbabwe will be searching for a consolation victory.
Regardless of the final result, Brathwaite's 23-ball 57 and record-breaking 20-ball fifty have already made the second T20I a memorable chapter in the series.
